The Times recently posted their best books of 2000-2009. The Time magazine, on the other hand, called the noughties the decade from Hell.
Since there are probably thousands of great books from the 00's that I do not know, I cannot make a "best of" list. But here are some that I found memorable. At least a couple of them appear on the Times' list, too. And Cormac McCarthy's The Road is not bad.
Almost anything by Jasper Fforde.
Zadie Smith: White Teeth (2000)
Ali Smith: Hotel World (2001)
Alaa-Al-Aswany: The Yacoubian Building (2002)
Peter Carey: My Life as a Fake (2003)
Philip Roth: The Plot Against America (2004)
Jhumpa Lahiri: The Namesake (2004)
Paul Auster: Oracle Night (2004)
Scarlett Thomas: The End of Mr. Y (2006)
Jeanette Winterson: The Stone Gods (2007)
Aravind Adiga: Between the Assassinations (2008)
