Short stories and short notes

I might be getting old. About 10 years ago I read an anthology of American short stories (probably the Signet Classic Book of American Short Stories) and liked almost all of them. Now I picked up "50 great short stories" (Bantam, edited by Crane) and there were only a few that left an impression. However, I realised, contrary to my previous judgement, Faulkner was pretty good.

Short notes

Andrea Levy: Small Island. A fluently written story about Jamaican immigrants in London during and after WW2.

Kobo Abe: Inter Ice Age 4. Actually not a great success, but may be the earliest book of fiction that mentions the threat of global warming: 1959.
